About Smidd
We are a software development company that believes great software is forged, not rushed.
The Name
Smidd is the Norwegian word for forged. It evokes the image of a blacksmith at the anvil — shaping raw material into something strong, precise, and lasting. That is exactly how we approach software: with patience, skill, and respect for the craft.
Our Mission
We exist to build software that businesses can depend on. Not software that merely works today, but software that remains reliable, maintainable, and performant as requirements evolve and scale grows.
What We Value
Craftsmanship
Every line of code is intentional. We take the time to get things right rather than cutting corners to ship faster.
Simplicity
The best solution is the simplest one that solves the problem. We avoid unnecessary complexity and over-engineering.
Honesty
Clear communication, realistic expectations, and full transparency into what we are building and why.
Technology
We work primarily with Rust, WebAssembly, and edge computing platforms like Cloudflare Workers. This site itself is a Rust application compiled to WASM and deployed to the edge — fast, lightweight, and running close to every visitor.
We also bring experience across the modern stack: cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, relational and document databases, and frontend technologies. We pick the right tool for each problem.
How We Work
We believe in small, focused teams that move deliberately. Our process prioritises automated testing, code review, and continuous delivery. We write code that is easy to read, easy to change, and hard to break.
If you share our belief that software should be built to last, we should talk.
